Say no to distractions and finally reach that big goal

Life can feel like an endless juggling act, can’t it? Between work, family, and the thousand other things begging for our attention, it’s easy for our big dreams to get lost in the shuffle. Today I’m going to explore how to identify that big important thing in your life right now and how to design your daily routines around achieving it.
Understanding Your Big Important Thing
So, what exactly is this “big important thing”? It’s that substantial goal or dream you have that you feel passionate about. This isn’t just about piles of to-do lists or administrative tasks but rather the vibrant, life-changing pursuits you want to undertake. It could be as ambitious as launching a membership program to help others, or as simple as finding more time for family or prioritizing your own health.
Reflecting on What Matters:
To discover your big important thing, start by reflecting on what truly matters to you—both personally and professionally. Here are some questions you can consider:
– What would make a significant impact in your life?
– What are the dreams you keep putting off?
– If you achieved one thing this year, what would be the biggest win for you?
Getting Off the Brain Train
Once you’ve pinpointed your big important thing, the next step is ensuring that it doesn’t become just another line item on your already overwhelming to-do list. My client, for instance, came to me feeling stuck in the minutiae of her daily responsibilities. She had this fantastic idea for a membership to help people who couldn’t afford one-on-one coaching, but she felt bogged down by admin work. We need to get her excited, not exhausted!
To kickstart this process, we conducted a thorough audit of her schedule. By looking at where her time was actually going versus where she wanted it to go, we could identify actionable steps to help her prioritize her new offering.
Making Time for Your Big Important Thing

Here’s the truth: you won’t find time for your big important thing— you have to create it. This involves making conscious decisions about how you spend your time daily.
Audit Your Time:
Concrete data on what you’re spending time on can be a game-changer. Track it for a week and get a realistic view. Are you spending hours scrolling through social media when you could be working on that membership? If your priorities are misaligned, time auditing is the first step toward change.Redesign Your Schedule:
Once you know how you spend your time, redesign your calendar to ensure your big important thing gets the attention it deserves. This could mean blocking off time each week specifically dedicated to developing your project. If your important thing is launching a membership, schedule creative blocks where you can brainstorm and develop your ideas.Set Boundaries:
To make space for your priorities, create hard boundaries around your time. If your big important thing is about investing more in your family or health, that might mean protecting your evenings and weekends from work intrusions. Communicate these boundaries clearly—to yourself, your team, and your clients.
The Power of Saying No for Achieving That Big Important Thing
Identifying your big important thing empowers you to say no more effectively. The more focused you become on what you genuinely want to achieve, the clearer it becomes which opportunities or responsibilities don’t align with your goals.
For many, especially women in business, saying no can feel daunting. Still, it’s crucial in protecting your time and energy for the pursuits that genuinely matter.
Celebrate Your Wins

Imagine how exhilarating it would feel to finally get that big important project off the ground! Visualize the relief, the excitement, and the possibility that comes with realizing your dream. Each small step you take builds momentum toward that big important moment in your journey.

Your Action Item:
Take some time this week to identify what your one big important thing is. Once you have that clarity, audit your current schedule and see where you can create space in your life to pursue this passion. Remember, it is about dedicating time to advance that one important goal, as nothing will happen unless you prioritize it!
Let me know in the comments or over on social media what that big important thing is for you. I can’t wait to hear about it!
